Every single person on this planet generates waste and each of us throws away on average
about 10 times our own body weight in refuse every year. Most rubbish dumps or landfill sites
in South Africa, which were designed to last 20 years, are being filled in half that time.
Biodegradable refuse decompose as soon as it’s dumped generating methane gas which
contributes to global warming and is a bigger culprit than carbon dioxide. Landfill Sites and
Rubbish Dumps have become the biggest source of methane pollution in Industrialized
Countries. South Africa is experiencing an increase in awareness and social responsibility.
